Snow Conditions In Lake Louise
Skiing in Lake Louise enjoys a superb snow record, and boasts a very long ski season, beginning in November and staying open until May. The whole area of the Banff National Park is known for its abundance of snow, with the ski resort of Lake Louise receiving an average of 380cm each year. Sitting at a height of 1,645m, Lake Louise offers a huge range of terrain and high-altitude skiing up to 2,637m.

Due to the resorts' northerly location and high elevation, the snow record at Lake Louise remains excellent, with plenty of the dry light 'champagne powder' so prevalent in the Rockies. To add to these first-rate snow conditions, the resort also boasts the biggest snowmaking capacity in Canada, covering 1,900 acres. The high-altitude slopes of Lake Louise see plenty of warm sunshine during the winter, with even December seeing around 7-8 hours each day. The layout of the resort and its four mountain faces means it is possible to follow the sun and enjoy wonderful conditions all day long, by skiing the Back Bowls in the morning, progressing to the Larch area then ending up on the Front Face.

The average winter temperature in Lake Louise is -12C, with December and January, the coldest months, ranging from -5C down to -15C, whilst April and May can see highs of up to 14C. December is generally the snowiest month, receiving up to 44cm of snow, and early snowfall is reliable with November seeing around 33cm. The weather in the region can be changeable, with Chinook winds bringing an increase in temperature and creating great conditions for skiers.
