Ski School
An excellent place to learn to ski, Lake Tahoe boasts many great ski schools offering lessons and private clinics. All the resorts have their own ski schools, and first-time packages are available, as well as specialised workshops with instruction on advanced techniques.
Children
Child-care is offered throughout the resorts, with the crèche at Heavenly taking babies as young as 6 weeks, and babysitting is available. Children’s' ski lessons are available for ages 4 and up, with snowboarding lessons for over 7's. Lake Tahoe is very child-friendly, with plenty of diverse entertainment for the whole family, including fun centres, arcades and a children’s' museum.
Dining
With almost 200 restaurants in the area, Lake Tahoe offers a wealth of choice, with prices to fit all budgets. From family-friendly cafes and coffee shops to romantic gourmet dining, each ski resort offers literally something for everyone.
Après-Ski
Ski holidays in Lake Tahoe have 24-hour entertainment, with over 100 bars and clubs found in the region, and numerous Nevada casinos on the South Shore providing live music and top-class shows. There's a great choice of drinking holes open when the lifts close, and nightlife ranges from local saloons and sports bars, to jazz clubs and upscale wine and champagne bars.
Services
Heavenly and Squaw Valley are the main centres, with well-equipped base villages. The resorts have 20 supermarkets for visitors, as well as many convenient banks and post offices. There are 5 museums and galleries, 5 cinemas, 2 libraries and 5 fitness centres throughout the area. 12 day spas and 5 hotel spas offer a choice of treatments.
Shopping
Home to over 75 shops spread around the resorts, Lake Tahoe is a shoppers' paradise, with a great selection of skiwear, sports gear and skiing equipment, as well as varied goods in the mini-malls such as clothing and souvenirs. For serious shoppers, the outlets have great bargains.
