An unspoilt Alpine town with plenty of Italian character and wonderful scenery, La Thuile offers a quiet and uncrowded base, with a small number of activities to enjoy off the slopes.

As well as a sauna and steam room in the resort, there is a natural spa centre nearby at Pre-Saint-Didier, just 10km away. 

 

The former mining town is divided by a river, with the newer part, known as Planibel, home to most of the tourist facilities, and the Old Town nice to stroll around. The surrounding forests and woodlands are particularly scenic and good for winter walks.

 

Dining
Dining in La Thuile is generally of a high standard and good value for money, offering plenty of delicious Italian food, featuring pastas and pizza, as well as hearty Alpine fare such as fondue and raclette.

 

Entertainment is fairly limited, and generally caters to the family market, with the quiet après-ski scene focused around the hotels and bars of the town, and one late-night disco.

 

Trips into France are possible from La Thuile, and the world-famous resort of Courmayeur is within reach. The historic town of Aosta, 40km away, has a traditional market every week, which is good to visit and offers a taste of local life.
