La Rosiere Ski Holidays
Skiing in La Rosiere
La Rosiere, situated in the Isere Valley in the Tarentaise region of the French Alps, is a purpose built resort boasting skiing for all levels and plenty of sunshine on its’ south facing slopes. Perched on the border between France and Italy, La Rosiere is linked to the Italian resort of La Thuile, and creates the Espace San Bernardo ski area, with its’ 150km of pistes. The Italian connection adds an international flavour to La Rosiere, and also enables adventurous skiers to heli-ski in La Thuile, an activity forbidden in France.
Skiing in La Rosiere – The Mountains
La Rosiere is situated at 1,850m, and its proximity to Mont Blanc ensures plenty of snow and a long ski season, running into May. The resort has been well designed to incorporate runs for all levels of skier, and in general the trails are fairly long and unusually wide. Beginners have 40% of the slopes, and with a designated area for easy runs, three free lifts and a very good ski school, La Rosiere is an excellent place to bring families and to learn to ski. Intermediates have almost as much terrain to choose from, and will enjoy the long cruising runs, and the sunny skies. A trip to La Thuile is a must whilst skiing in la Rosiere, and the views of the surrounding mountains are stunning. Experts will find much more challenging terrain in the Italian resort, as only 12 of the runs in La Rosiere cater for the more experienced skier, and many advanced skiers visit the resort to try the heli-skiing available in La Thuile. Off-piste skiing is available in La Rosiere and a ski guide is recommended.
Skiing in La Rosiere – The Village
La Rosiere is an attractive ski resort with the purpose-built buildings constructed of traditional materials and the architecture staying true to the local style, therefore blending in with the village. The après-ski in La Rosiere is traditional and relaxed, with skiers finding several spots for drinks when the lifts close, and one disco. With 13 restaurants on the mountains and 20 in the village, there is plenty of opportunity to sample the local fare in La Rosiere. The resort organises various weekly events, with the torchlit descent being very popular. Whilst skiing in La Rosiere, other activities to try include snow-mobiling, snow-shoeing, hiking, paragliding, visiting the gym and browsing amongst the small array of shops in the village.
