Snow Conditions In La Clusaz - Part of Grand Massif ski area
Located in the Northern French Alps in the Avaris region, the resort of La Clusaz sits at a height of 1,110m, less than an hour from Geneva. Part of the Grand Massif ski area, with 265km of varied terrain, La Clusaz is a good resort for families, beginners and intermediates, and offers skiing up to a height of 2,600m. The resort can see fairly unpredictable conditions, with unreliable snowfall on the lower slopes, but enjoys a good ski season running from December to April.

The ski area is spread over 5 mountains - Beauregard, La Croix Fry-Manigod-Merdassier, L'Etale, L'Aiguille and Balme - all lift-linked to each other. The resort comprises varied terrain, from tree-lined pistes to steep trails with plenty of bumps, and is ideal for intermediates. Balme is the highest mountain and the most snow-sure region, with above the tree line slopes and fast cruising runs, whilst the slopes of l'Etale offer steep terrain, also above tree-line, ideal for advanced skiers, with plenty of deep powder for off-piste adventures. Beginners and families generally stay on the gentle slopes of Croix-Fry Manigod Merdassier, close to the village.
Snow Conditions In La Clusaz - Low-lying resort, snowmaking on its slopes
Due to its relatively low altitude, snow coverage can be a problem on these lower slopes, especially during busy weekends and peak season. The resort has invested in extensive snowmaking facilities, with 75 cannons covering the slopes and ensuring good snow coverage all season. The peak season of March generally sees an average upper slope average of 170cm, with 2007 seeing averages of 184cm, and 2006 reaching highs of 266cm.
