Snow Conditions in Kitzbuhel
When there is plenty of snow, the skiing in Kitzbuhel is excellent, with large amounts of powder on its varied slopes. Due to its relatively low altitude of 760m, Kitzbuhel is not known for its reliability of snow coverage and has quite a short season compared with other resorts, running from December to March. The resort can see unreliable snow levels either early on in the season and if the weather is particularly mild, but with most of the skiing above tree-line, this is rarely a problem on the upper slopes where conditions remain good.

Kitzbuhel Snow Conditions - Unreliable snow, but increased snowmaking in resort
The highest skiing takes place at 2,000m, and in general the slopes are varied in Kitzbuhel and face in all directions, suiting all types of skiers. They range from the famed World Champion Run, the Hahnenkamm, which sees incredibly steep and challenging icy conditions during race time, to mellow blues and reds that meander through meadows and woodlands, and gently easy slopes at the top of the Kitzbuhel Horn. To address the problem of the unreliable snowfall, the resort has invested heavily in snowmaking facilities in recent years and continues to do so, with the existing 200 snow cannons increasing to 300, resulting in an additional 30 hectares of trails covered, and a higher number of lower runs down to the valley seeing good conditions for longer.

The average snowfall for the resort is 457cm, and the average winter temperature generally stays above freezing, seeing highs of around 3C-5C during the day.
