Kirchdorf Snow Conditions – Austria’s ‘favourite’ ski resort for absolute beginners!
Year after year, holidays to Kirchdorf in Austria’s Schneewinkel Ski Area prove the perfect choice for skiing and snowboarding beginners from all over the world. A picture-postcard village that simply oozes Tyrolean authenticity, Kirchdorf is a delight, with a winding emerald river running through it, and the Kitzbuhel Alps serving as a beautiful glacial backdrop. For intermediate and advanced skiers, neighbouring ski resorts such as St Johann, Waidring/Steinplatte and Fieberbrunn are a good choice (and easy to get to, particularly if you have your own transport).
Snow Conditions in Kirchdorf – Snow cannons supplement natural snow effectively
Kirchdorf itself is situated at a relatively low altitude (640 to 850 metres). But the resort is able to augment natural snow, with 3 snow cannons ensuring you won’t miss a moment’s skiing from the day you arrive, onwards. The nursery slopes at Kirchdorf are not far from the resort’s centre, on scenic snowy meadows. It is here that the snow cannons are utilised most, as the snow cover can be a little thin in this area at either end of the skiing season. In fact, 25 per cent of the pistes’ surface areas at Kirchdorf are covered by snow making machines at season’s-end.
Snow Conditions in Kirchdorf - Proximity to other resorts means a plethora of skiing options
Kirchdorf’s low elevation means beginners can ‘find their skiing feet’ for a few days, and then test themselves on more challenging terrain at the north and north-west facing slopes at nearby St Johann. Combining a Kirchdorf holiday with trips to other nearby resorts ensures guaranteed natural snow coverage throughout the entire season. Also, because Kirchdorf is linked by bus to the other Schneewinkel resorts, it makes a great base from which to explore the entire region, and, of course, the awesomely beautiful Kitzbuhel Alps.
