Killington Snow Conditions - Largest ski area in eastern US 

Located in the Green Mountains of Vermont, the resort of Killington is the largest ski area in the eastern United States. Despite the resorts' relatively low altitude of 670m, Killington receives an annual snowfall of 635cm each winter, offering reliable natural conditions. Snowfall in heaviest in March, receiving a monthly average of 137cm, with November generally seeing around 70cm. 2007 saw a total snowfall of as much as 746cm, with 2006 receiving around 485cm. 

 

Snow Condtions In Killington - Longest ski season in region 

Killington is known for its long ski season, the longest in eastern North America, which usually runs from October to May. It regularly claimed to be the first ski resort in the region to open and the last to close for years until 2002, when it was beaten by the little resort of Woodbury in Connecticut. The terrain in Killington is spectacularly vast, spread over 6 lift-linked mountains (not counting the seventh, Pico, which is a short drive away) and offers an exceptional amount of skiing for all levels. Although an ideal resort for intermediates and more advanced skiers, beginners have their own areas, and there are greens from all six peaks. Un-groomed wooded sections called 'Fusion Zones' are available for advanced skiers wishing to try off-piste.

Snowmaking is first-class in Killington and rated among the best in the world. The extensive coverage from 1,850 snow guns ensures consistent conditions whatever the weather, and allows for the early season start. Over 70% of the trails are covered, with 50% of the slopes being groomed every night to maintain an optimum surface each morning. The resort offers a snow guarantee on their one and two-day lift passes, so if a skier is not satisfied with the conditions by 10am that day, it can be exchanged for a voucher to be used another day.
