Snow Conditions In Kicking Horse - 'Champagne powder capital of Canada'
Located in British Columbia, the resort of Kicking Horse is ideally positioned against the Canadian Rockies, and offers extensive steep terrain for adventurous skiers and boarders. The region is known for its abundance of 'champagne powder' - light fluffy dry snow - which creates ideal conditions and a natural ski terrain, and Kicking Horse can boast the best in the area. Until only recently, much of the wilderness terrain here was only accessible by helicopter, and the resort still continues to attract huge amounts of heli-skiers each season.

Kicking Horse Snow Conditions - Vast powder terrain for adventurous and expert skiers
With a base elevation of 1100m, the high-altitude skiing in Kicking Horse takes place up to 2450m in three eastern facing bowls, with 60% of the steep terrain rated as expert or advanced. The resort is known for its excellent snow record and generally sees an average snowfall of 750cm. Enjoying a long ski season running from December to April, Kicking Horse usually sees the best snow in February and March. The mainly north-eastern slopes retain a fantastic packed powder snow base throughout the winter season - an average base depth of 160cm. Snow on the lower slopes is not as reliable, and the resort may introduce snowmaking facilities in the future as developments continue.

Snow Conditions In Kicking Horse - Ideal resort for heli-skiing
The resort sits nestled up against the Rocky Mountains and is therefore conveniently sheltered from the bad weather that can sometimes plague the other more southerly British Columbia ski resorts. The extensive steep terrain at Kicking Horse presents a risk of avalanche danger when heli-skiing or venturing off-piste, so it is paramount to always check the weather forecast, take the necessary equipment and follow the recommended safety precautions.
