Grindelwald Snow Conditions
Grindelwald Snow Conditions – Plenty of snow at the Jungfrau region’s No.1 resort
People from all over Europe have been heading to Grindelwald in Switzerland for their cheap skiing holidays for over a century. Once you arrive there yourself you’ll immediately understand why. Sitting beneath the 2,000m north face of Central Switzerland’s Eiger Mountain, the picturesque glacier village of Grindelwald is the largest ski resort in the Jungfrau region and is spectacularly scenic. Even though it is set at a relatively low altitude (only 1,050m) compared to other ski resorts across Europe, it can boast an excellent snow cover record.
Snow Conditions in Grindelwald – Snow cannons augment snow cover where required
At Grindelwald, most of the skiing takes place between 1,050m and 2,000m. Only occasionally does snow cover there require a little augmentation. This is almost effortlessly provided by the state-of-the-art snowmaking facilities (a range of snow cannons capable of generating white powder at varying velocities). When called for, the cannons can be relied upon to create snow cover on over 90km of pistes in the area. This means you can wake each day and look forward to hours of skiing beneath a wonderful winter sun, without needing to head for other resorts at higher altitudes.
Grindelwald Snow Conditions – Uninterrupted Alpine skiing, snowshoeing and more
The abundance of winter snowfall each year at Grindelwald allows for family skiing holidays that can be packed with hour-after-hour of uninterrupted Alpine skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, snowboarding and more, all beneath a wonderfully clear blue sky. During the skiing season Grindelwald can experience relatively cold temperatures, with the mercury sometimes falling to as low as -10C during frostier periods in the winter months. On average, though, you can expect daytime temperatures during the season to stay at a steady 0C-3C from December through to February (this is the peak skiing season at the resort).
