Snow Conditions in Gressoney - Part of the Monte Rosa ski area
Located in the heart of the Aosta Valley in north-west Italy, Gressoney is part of the Monte Rosa ski area, with 180km of terrain. Known as a fantastic intermediate ski resort, Gressoney is also famous for its off-piste terrain, offering extreme descents with huge verticals of up to 2,000m, and access to plenty of untracked terrain, backed by spectacular scenery. With an average snowfall of 6m, the whole Monte Rosa ski area is snowsure and reliable, and also offers extensive snowmaking.
Snow Conditions in Gressoney - Great for intermediates and off-piste skiers
Gressoney has three village bases - St Jean, La Trinite and Stadfel - with La Trinite being the highest at 1,635m and skiing taking place up to 2,970m. La Trinite and Stadfel are linked to Champoluc and Alagna, offering a good range of terrain, and Gressoney is ideally placed for good access to the other valleys in the Three Valley range. Novice skiers have a good nursery area to learn on, but in general the beginner's slopes tend to be quite challenging for first-timers. The ski area around Gressoney is ideal for intermediate skiers, with a wide range of blue and red runs, and the whole region is characterised by well-groomed wide open pistes. Gressoney is also known as a popular heliskiing destination, thanks to the huge peaks in the area and the acres of fantastic off-piste, with many descents for all levels of adventurous skier and plenty of extreme skiing available.
Snow Conditions in Gressoney - Long season and extensive snowmaking
The ski season in Gressoney starts in late November or early December, and runs through until April, with February and March usually seeing the best snow. The winter season of 2008 has seen upper slope averages of 256cm, with the lower slopes generally seeing an average of 25-94cm throughout the season. Gressoney has extensive snowmaking in the resort, with 400 snow cannons covering 100km of slopes.
