Grand Serre Che Resort Facilities

There are 7 ski schools in the Grand Serre Che area, ranging from the large national ESF school to small private companies offering very personal service. Tuition is available in everything from learn-to-ski packages to specialist disciplines, such as racing and carving, as well as mountain guiding and ski touring. 

 

The area has been awarded the Famille-Plus label, with each sector having its own childcare facility, some taking babies as young as 6-months, and Chantemerle and Villeneuve, in particular, being home to great children's clubs. Lessons are available for the over-3's, and English is widely spoken.

 

The town of Briancon, the only one in Grand Serre Che, offers the best shopping in its modern section, with other villages home to ski and sports shops, and plenty of grocers, tobacconists, traditional bakeries, butchers and delicatessens.

 

There are more than 100 restaurants in the valley offering a range of dining, from sunny slope-side terraces, Italian pizzerias and casual cafes to cosy French bistros and brasseries serving traditional Alpine fare. The area also has many good hotel restaurants, and prices are generally reasonable.  

 

There is a fairly quiet and unpretentious apres-ski scene, with 20 bars in the villages, and lively spots in each centre, featuring happy hours, live sports and bands, as well as traditional French taverns with welcoming open fires. Each village has a cinema, and there is a casino and a theatre in Briancon. 

 

Shuttle buses run between the 13 villages in Grand Serre Che, which range from the traditional and historic town of Briancon to the purpose-built Villeneuve. As well as hotels, shops and restaurants, services available include supermarkets, banks with cashpoints, post offices, tourist office, internet cafes, libraries, garages, hairdressers, launderettes and dry cleaners.
