Skiing in the Grand Serre Che
The Grand Serre Che is a vast ski area of 250kms of piste, it is made up of three ski areas which run along the Guisane Valley, they are Briancon, Serre Che and Le Monetier Le Bains. The Grand Serre Che covers a ski altitude of 1,200m to 2,800m, there are approx 105 pistes, a snowpark and approx 40km of cross-country skiing. The Grand Serre Che has thirteen villages, from charming traditional mountain villages to modern hamlets, there is beautiful alpine scenery, great skiing and approx 300 days of sunshine.

As the Grand Serre Che is such a large ski area there is a great choice for every level of skier and snowboarder. There are very good beginners slopes next to Villeneuve village, at Monetier and also above Chantemerle at Grand Alpe. For intermediate skiers in the Grand Serre Che there is the beautiful Ecrins National park to ski through and many tree lined runs, the longest being 4kms. For advanced skiers there are plenty of moguls, gullies, ravines and the ‘Olympic Luc Alphand’ black run. Snowboarders class the Grand Serre Che as one of the best snowboarding resorts in France.

As Briancon is the largest village in the Grand Serre Che it has the greatest choice of restaurants and bars, however Chantemerle and Villeneuve have reasonably priced restaurants and some lively bars. Monetier Le Bains at the far end of the valley has a good choice of traditional restaurants. For non skiers there are ice skating rinks, an indoor pool at Villeneuve, an Equestrian Centre, ice hockey and Roman baths at Monetier.
