Galtur Snow Conditions

Snow Conditions in Galtur - Family-friendly resort in Silvetta ski area
One of the resorts that make up the large Silvretta ski area in Austria, the little village of Galtur offers excellent snow sure slopes and very reliable conditions. Located at the head of the Paznaun Valley, and sitting on the Swiss border, the resort is the highest in the valley, and provides a quiet base with great skiing for all the family. Galtur is also well-known as a major Austrian ski touring destination and popular cross-country skiing resort.

Galtur Snow Conditions - Highest village in the valley
Galtur sits at an altitude of 1,600m, with skiing up to 2,300m. It is positioned at the top of the valley, just 10km above the lively town of Ischgl, the main resort in the Silvetta ski area. Galtur is ideal for multi-level groups, and is good for beginners who wish to explore the region with more competent skiers. The local ski slopes are just a few minutes away from the village by shuttle bus, with skiers departing from the base further up the valley at Wirl. Here, chairlifts ascend into the local ski area's 40km of terrain, with 10 runs served by 10 lifts, where there is plenty of wide gentle terrain. Thanks to the height of the resort, skiing or snowboarding back to the village is usually possible. There's also great access to the Silvretta ski area and its extensive 330km of terrain, with runs for all levels, and plenty of off-piste opportunities.

Snow Conditions in Galtur - Reliable conditions, with the addition of snowmaking
Due to its altitude at the head of the valley, Galtur sees the longest ski season in Silvetta, with the slopes remaining open until early May each year. There's also snowmaking in Galtur, with 25km of runs covered by 63 snow cannons. Galtur saw 2009 upper slope averages of 213cm in March, the best month of the year.
