Snow Conditions
The high-altitude slopes of the purpose-built resort Flaine offer guaranteed snow and excellent conditions throughout the ski season. Sitting at an altitude of 1,600m and with the highest lift reaching 2,500m, the resort is known for its enviable snow record and boasts a very long ski season running from December to late April. Flaine’s close proximity to Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe, just 30 km away, also helps to guarantee excellent snow coverage.

The resort sits in a wide snow-filled bowl, and offers 52 trails that lead back down to the large nursery area at the bottom of the slopes. Most of the runs are north or north-westerly facing, helping to hold the snow and maintain the excellent conditions. In case the natural snowfall needs any additional help, there are 218 snow cannons located on the slopes, generally only needed at the beginning and end of the season.

The average snowfall during a ski holiday in Flaine is 6m, creating the fantastic conditions that the resort is known for, and its impressive snow history. Previous years have seen very high upper slope averages during peak season, with 2006 seeing snow depths of 372cm in March and 429cm in April at a height of 2,500m, and even up to 130cm at resort level.
