Snow Conditions in Fernie - BC resort known for its legendary powder
Located in the southeast corner of British Columbia in Canada, the ski resort of Fernie is a quiet and uncrowded spot in the wilderness, known for its exceptional snowfall and legendary champagne powder. Boasting around 960 cm of snowfall each season, Fernie offers some of the most guaranteed conditions around, and is a haven for serious skiers looking to explore the steep mountains, and venture out on a powder-filled backcountry tour.
Snow Conditions in Fernie - Exceptional snowfall during the winter season
Fernie sits at an altitude of 1,065m, and offers skiing up to a top elevation of almost 2,000m. Lying in the Lizard Range of the British Columbian Rocky Mountains, the resort is in the midst of three valleys and acts as a natural snow trap, located in the direct path of any storms coming across from the Pacific Northeast, and consequently seeing huge snowfall on a regular basis. The ski area is spread over 5 bowls, which are partially groomed and home to steep chutes, deep ridges and long tree-lined trails. The lower mountain is full of wide gentle runs for beginners, and novices will find learning in the fine dry snow a new experience, as the powder provides a softer landing during falls. Experts have a huge amount of challenging terrain to explore, and the vast amount of high-altitude powder skiing is a haven for adventurous skiers. Although the ski area is becoming more popular, the remote nature of the resort means that Fernie has remained fairly unspoilt and quiet for the most part, with the slopes being uncrowded and seeing few crowds, even during high season.
