Skiing in Fernie
Skiing in Fernie in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia offers exceptional conditions for advanced and expert skiers, with some of the steepest terrain in North America. Known for its wonderfully light powder, skiing in Fernie boasts plenty of snow each winter, and is one of the larger ski resorts in Canada. A historic old mining town, the compact village is full of character and charm, with skiing in Fernie offering a modern base with plenty of convenient facilities. Located in the extreme south-east part of British Columbia and with a 3 hour transfer time from Calgary, the resort is fairly remote, seeing little crowds and queues.

Skiing in Fernie - Excellent advanced terrain, fantastic powder
A resort for the adventurous, skiing in Fernie consists of five bowls, all with a huge choice of varying slopes. At a resort height of 1,070m, skiing in Fernie offers a total of 107 runs covering an area of 220km, with 10 lifts on the mountain to take skiers around. Beginners in Fernie have some slopes at the base that are separated from the rest, with even the easy trails being more challenging than in most resorts. The real skiing in Fernie takes place in the bowls, with a range of options for strong intermediates and advanced skiers, full of incredibly steep and challenging slopes, plenty of trees, lots of ungroomed terrain and deep powder. Part of the Canadian Rockies Super Pass Ski, skiing in Fernie also allows visitors to ski in the neighbouring resorts of Kimberley, Lake Louise and Sunshine Village-Banff.

Skiing in Fernie - Good value modern resort, historic old town full of tradition and charm
A friendly resort offering good value for money, modern facilities and a charming village to explore, skiing in Fernie is popular with families, as well as the expert skiers who come just for the powder. Skiing in Fernie offers accommodation in the form of apartments, hotels and mountain lodges, an excellent choice of restaurants both in town and on the mountain and a fairly quiet apres-ski scene, with just a few bars. Recent investment in the resort (Fernie is now owned by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies) has seen the growth and modernisation of the village, and with a new international airport in the works, skiing in Fernie is set to become a much more popular option. Whilst on a skiing holiday in Fernie, other activities to enjoy include sleigh rides, dogsledding, ice-fishing and snowmobiling, as well as discovering the heritage of the area in the old town.
