The Espace Killy ski area The Espace Killy ski area is named after a local Olympic gold medallist; it is in the Savoie region of France and is made up of 3 ski resorts – Val d’Isere, La Daille and Tignes. The Espace Killy ski area is renound for having good snow conditions and La Grande Motte at 3650 m has glacier skiing and snowboarding. The Espace Killy is one of the largest and most varied ski areas in Europe.
Skiing in Espace Killy The Espace Killy ski area covers 300kms of piste, with 97 ski lifts. All competent skiers will be able to ski between Val d’Isere and Tignes in a day due to the excellent lift facilities. Val d’Isere marks the start of the European World Cup downhill ski season with the Premiere Neige held here in December. The La Face black run was the 1992 Olympic downhill course.
The resorts in Espace Killy Val d’Isere is one the most famous ski resorts in the world, the village dates from the 13th century and has a traditional pedestrianised area. The skiing offers something for everyone and it has an excellent snow record. Tignes is a purpose-built ski resort which lacks beauty but makes up for it with good facilities and a reliable snow fall, being at 2,100m. La Daille is an old hamlet at 1800m, just below Val d’Isere; it has the Funival high speed funicular which takes skiers to the top of the Bellevarde piste in a few minutes.
Apres ski in Espace Killy The après ski in Espace Killy is plentiful and lively. There are over 60 bars, restaurants and clubs to choose from. In Tignes there are approx 20 restaurants, many bars and 3 clubs and there is a free 24 hour bus service. In Espace Killy there are all the usual activities for non skiers e.g. ice skating, husky sleigh rides, ice climbing and weekly markets.
Snowboarding in Espace Killy The Espace Killy area has excellent facilities for snowboarders, with a half pipe, a couple of snowboard parks and extensive pisted and unpisted terrain for all levels of snowboards.
