Equipment Used For Snowboarding
In a short space of time snowboarding holidays have become incredibly popular and now most ski resorts such as Whistler in Canada, Les Arcs in France and Mayrhofen in Austria are split 50/50 between skiers and snowboarders.  Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, the equipment used for snowboarding is basically the same; the only real difference may be the board you use.  Most resorts will rent out equipment used for snowboarding, which may be a good idea if you are first timer, but snowboarding gear is widely available at sports shops and dedicated ski stores.  As with all sports the price ranges from the low budget for basic equipment, to the very expensive professional equipment.

Equipment Used For Snowboarding - Choose the correct board
The most important piece of equipment used for snowboarding is of course, the snowboard itself.  There are a few main types of snowboard and each one is used for different type of ride style.  For beginners the best type of board will probably be a Freeride, all-purpose board. Freeride boards are great for anything from jumps to long radius turns.  Freestyle boards are specifically designed to be used on soft snow and are very light and flexible, great for trick, jumps and rotatations.  The Freecarve snowboard is a good board for people who want to make the crossover from skiing to snowboarding and the thicker, narrower and longer Raceboard is great for achieving high speed boarding.  The main rule is, the stiffer the board, the more it will grip the ice and hard snow while softer boards are more responsive to the rider.

Equipment Used For Snowboarding - Layers, boots and bindings
As with most snowsports the clothes worn are basically the same throughout. Snowboarders tend to use a lot more energy than skiers and as such there is no need for heavy jackets or parkas. Basic layering is required such as a thin underlayer covered by a fleece and a final light, waterproof jacket on top. Another important piece of equipment used for snowboarding is the binding that attaches the rider to the snowboard, these can either be soft, soft step-in and hard step-in, the choice in the matter depends on the taste, and board of the individual. The boots used in snowboarding are very important and are the key to comfort and control. Choose between soft boots for greater flexibility and comfort or hard boots for mountainous, Alpine conditions.
