Dolomites Resort Facilities
Ski School
There are plenty of ski schools in the region, with the larger resorts home to multiple places in which to learn. All offer basic learn-to-ski and board packages, as well as specialised instruction, in the form of group and private lessons. Ski guiding and touring is also available to fully make the most of exploring the Dolomites.
Children
There's plenty of childcare, with some nurseries taking newborns, and babysitting services also available, with extensive skiing lessons for the over 3's. Resorts also provide special childrens' areas and playgrounds, and there's ample opportunity for fun and games, with tubing and sledding are always popular.
Shopping
Cortina offers the best shopping in the Dolomites, with an excellent range of clothing and jewellery in the boutiques and upscale shops. Other towns in the area have ski and sports shops, with plenty of places for equipment hire, as well as local shops such as bakers, butchers, delis, cheese and wine merchants. Good souvenirs to buy in the gift shops include traditional wood-carvings.
Dining
The Dolomites offer a very varied scene with plenty of international influences, from Italian and Ladin to German and Austrian, at a range of prices too. There's everything from rustic huts, cosy cafes and coffeshops, to diners, authentic cascinas and pizzerias, as well as high-end restaurants.
Nightlife
Apres-ski includes a traditional and homely scene, as well as sophisticated and glamorous entertainment, with local bars and pubs, as well as international clubs and discos. Italian evenings in more upmarket ski resorts usually starting with the nightly 'passeggiata' where people parade along the streets before dinner, where the more down-to-earth resorts with a German influence focus on drinks in cosy local inns and taverns.
Town services
Towns have a selection of convenient amenities for tourists, such as banks, post offices, tourist offices, libraries, internet cafes, cinemas, hairdressers, dry cleaners and launderettes, and regular shuttle buses linking villages in the region.
Medical facilities
Resorts have doctors and chemists, and there are local hospitals around Val Gardena and Selva for medical emergencies.
