Skiing in Courchevel 1550
Courchevel is one of the most prestigious resorts in the world, offering fabulous skiing both in its’ own valley and in the Trois Vallees region. Courchevel 1850 is the village giving the resort its’ glamorous reputation, with its’ jet-set clientele, fantastic high altitude slopes and chic and expensive apres-ski, yet the resort is made up of 4 separate villages, all named for their altitudes, ranging in height from 1,300m through 1,550 and 1,650m and up to 1,850m. Courchevel 1550 is a relatively quiet village, popular with the French, ideally situated within the resort to offer excellent links to the extensive skiing of the area.

Skiing in Courchevel 1550 – The Mountains
Courchevel 1550 is located directly below 1850, and skiers can access the upper slopes of the resort by taking the recently added 6 person high-speed gondola up to the hub of the village, La Croisette, or choose to take one of two other lifts leading up to the ridge separating the resort from Meribel. The choices here in Courchevel are huge, with the resort offering 102 runs over 150km set in its’ own valley, and the entire Trois Vallees offering a massive 600km of terrain.

Intermediate skiers have one of the best areas in the world to explore, with diverse terrain ranging from smooth, wide pistes to steep couloirs, and all served by one of the best lift systems in the world. Beginners have their own highly regarded ski school, free surface lifts and nursery areas at Courchevel 1650, and will enjoy some of the easier more scenic tree-lined slopes of the lower areas.

Expert skiers are extremely well-catered for in Courchevel, with the most challenging skiing found high up around 1850. The high north-facing slopes of Courchevel ensure good snow coverage, perhaps the best in the Trois Vallees, and are home to such notorious blacks as the infamous Ugly Sisters Couloirs, and the intensely moguled Jean Blanc, as well as a wealth of off-piste areas. Once at the higher levels, skiers have a choice of 3 runs to take them back down to Courchevel 1650.

Skiing in Courchevel 1550 – The Village
Courchevel 1550, a favourite with the locals, offers a good choice of doorstep skiing, in a quiet relaxed village, yet with access to the more cosmopolitan village of 1850. All the villages are linked by free shuttle bus, and those staying in 1550 have the added bonus of the gondola leading up to 1850, which stays open until 7.30pm every evening. Courchevel 1550 is home to some friendly bars and restaurants, with the atmosphere in general being rather peaceful, and offering much better value for money than the villages’ glamorous neighbour, Courchevel 1850. Whilst skiing in Courchevel 1550, other activities to try include snow-shoeing, snow-mobiling, ice-climbing, swimming and ice-skating.
