Skiing in Courchevel 1300
Courchevel, the hugely popular ski resort in the Trois Vallees, offers fantastic high-altitude skiing together with some of the best apres-ski, lodgings and dining around. The resort is actually made up of 4 separate villages, all known for their respective heights, and all gaining in both exclusivity and price as their altitude escalates. Courchevel 1300, or Le Praz, as it is known by the locals, is the first village that visitors come across as they enter the resort, at the lowest altitude. It is the most traditional of all the villages, with Savoyard architecture, picturesque woodlands and all the charm of an authentic French mountain village.

Skiing in Courchevel 1300 – The Mountains
Courchevel 1300 offers skiers a totally different experience to the famed slopes of 1850, with this quaint village being home to scenic tree-lined runs and sheltered pistes. The village was home to both the ski-jumping and the cross-country events in the 1992 Olympics, and Courchevel 1300 offers 66km of cross-country trails through its’ beautiful woodlands. For downhill skiers, Courchevel 1300 is a much cheaper option than the higher resorts, yet is linked to 1850 by a gondola just above the village, giving convenient access to both the fabulous skiing at the top of the resort, the varied 150km of terrain throughout the entire Courchevel region, and the direct links to the other resorts of the Trois Vallees. Another lift from 1300 bypasses the busy hub of 1850, and then links to a chair-lift dropping straight down into Meribel. From the peak of 1850, it is possible to ski all the way back down to Courchevel 1300, and the slopes are generally free from crowds. One downside of 1300 is the comparatively low altitude of the village, which means that conditions are sometimes limited, and the season is shorter than the other higher parts of Courchevel.

Skiing in Courchevel 1300 – The Village
Courchevel 1300 is certainly the quaintest and most charming of all the villages in Courchevel. This original farming village offers some reasonably priced traditional accommodation in a rural environment and offers a peaceful relaxing base, perfect for families and couples. With 6 restaurants and 4 bars, the nightlife is very low-key, but visitors can use the free bus service for trips into the other villages. Whilst skiing in Courchevel 1300, other activities available in the resort include snow-mobiling, snow-shoeing, ice-climbing, ice-skating, bowling and swimming.
