Most of the better hotels have spa facilities available, and there are saunas and Turkish baths open to the public in town. Entertainment includes video arcades, a cinema (showing Italian films) various museums, such as the Modern Art Museum, and some art galleries. The scenery from the top of the Freccia nel Cielo cable car is amazing, and there are some fantastic restaurants to visit at the top. There is often ice disco dancing in the evenings at the skating rink. A great day-trip is Venice which lies just 2 hours away by bus or train.
The town centre is full of Alpine charm, with Tyrolean atmosphere and a sophisticated air, lent by the luxury shops and fashionably chic boutiques, and is a delight to stroll around. As well as the many shops, local workshops display traditional crafts, including glasswork, wooden carvings and brass sculptures.
Apres-ski
As Italy’s most fashionable ski resort, the atmosphere in Cortina is cosmopolitan and upmarket. The evening entertainment starts with the nightly 'passeggiata' of the mainly fur-clad clientele through the main centre - an excellent chance to people-watch. The after-dark scene is fairly quiet, but there is a good selection of cafes, piano bars and wine bars, with the towns' handful of clubs opening up around 11pm.
Restaurants
Cortina is known for its high standard of dining, and offers both casual cafes and snack bars and expensive gourmet restaurants that need reservations. Try some of the northern Italian fare such as game and polenta, and regional specialities such as casunziel (a beetroot filled ravioli) and canederli (dumplings made with salami).
