Champoluc is located in the Aosta Valley in the northwest Italian Alps, close to the Swiss border and just 100km from Turin. The resort lies at the foot of the Monte Rosa, at the top of the most westerly of the three valleys that make up the region, and enjoys a great location in a flat sunny plateau surrounded by dense pine forests. Part of the Monte Rosa ski area, which offers almost 200km of diverse terrain set amongst stunning Alpine scenery, the resort is linked to Gressony and Alagna.
Champoluc Snow conditions - Ideal for intermediates and heli-skiers
Champoluc is located at an altitude of 1,570m, and offers plenty of skiing above 2,500m and a top elevation of 3,550m. Slopes in Champoluc are generally quiet and uncrowded, and the area boasts plenty of wide open pistes. Much of the local terrain in Champoluc is suited to intermediate skiers, who will enjoy the many long blue and red runs, ideal for fast cruising, as well as the challenging tree-lined descents that run down to the resort. Beginners have an excellent nursery area at the top of the cable-car, whilst advanced skiers can explore the famous range of off-piste and heli-skiing options found here, with plenty of fresh powder to be discovered throughout the area, and the tougher slopes of Alagna.
Snow Conditions in Champoluc - Quiet slopes and plenty of snowmaking
The ski season in Champoluc runs from December to April. The resort remains snow-sure throughout the winter, with upper slope averages for the 2007-8 season reaching 126cm in February. The slopes of Champoluc are generally well-maintained and quiet, and at least half of the local pistes are covered by snowmaking facilities.
