This traditional French town is beautiful to walk round, and offers an authentic Alpine charm, as well as world-class tourist facilities and a bright lively atmosphere.

Shopping
Most shops are open every day, and offer a diverse choice for the avid shopper, from high-tech specialist sports shops and elegant designer boutiques, to cheap souvenir shops, a department store and a local weekly market. There are a couple of reasonably-priced supermarkets in town, as well as smaller places selling gourmet regional products in which to indulge.

Eating and drinking
Do try some of the local specialities whilst in Chamonix, from hearty dishes like fondue, raclette and tartiflette, made with the delicious cheeses of the area, to the local beers and wines, and especially the famous Gluvine - perfect after the last run of the day. The resort caters for everyone, with Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian restaurants, as well as sushi and vegetarian, and, with almost 100 eateries here, there'll definitely be something for all tastes.

Apres-ski
Chamonix buzzes with life when the lifts close. With numerous bars including some well-known and beloved meeting places, the atmosphere is friendly and fun, with the internet cafes, pubs and live music venues filling up as the night goes on. For the party-lover, there are seven late-night clubs and discos in town, often hosting famous DJ's, and the international casino adds a glamorous touch to the resort.
