Canazei Snow Conditions

Canazei lies in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, at the head of the Fassa Valley. The largest of the villages in the valley, Canazei is the main access point for the Sella Ronda, and is ideally positioned in the middle of the vast Dolomiti Superski area. 

 

The ski resort of Canazei sits at an altitude of 1,460m, but has a top elevation of 2,950m. These high-altitude slopes hold the snow well, and result in good coverage throughout the winter season. The town sits below heavily forested pine-clad slopes, meaning lots of tree-lined runs in the local ski area, which are generally quiet and not crowded, even in peak season. Canazei is also close to the snowsure Marmolada Glacier, which helps to maintain its good snow record. The whole Val di Fassa region has 170km of terrain on offer, with slopes for all level of skier. Canazei caters to beginners, and has excellent nursery slopes, however the ski area is particularly good for intermediates, with a wealth of long red cruising runs to choose from. Skiers take the Belvedere gondola to link directly into the Sella Ronda circuit, and can head out in either direction passing through resorts such as Arabba and Val Gardena. Canazei is ideally placed to explore the vast terrain in the Dolomiti Superski region, boasting 1,200km served by 450 lifts over 50 resorts. The Val di Fassa region also has plenty of challenging off-piste for advanced skiers, some with with spectacular scenery, as well as steep slopes above Arabba and glacial terrain on the Marmolada.

Canazei enjoys a long winter ski season, running from December until April. 2007-8 saw upper slope averages of 108cm during March, the peak season in the resort. The resort does have snowmaking facilities, with over 200 snow cannons covering its slopes.
