The Dolomites make for a wonderful scenic backdrop, and the town has retained an authentic charm, with charming cafes and small local shops to browse in. There are some attractive villages in the area to visit, displaying the unique history and Ladin culture of the region, with longer day trips from Campitello including Bolzano, Cortina and Lagazuoi. Campitello has a ski museum in town, and a Ladin-style Carnivale takes place every February.
Dining and apres ski
Although Campitello is a quiet town with a laid-back apres ski scene, the local bars can get quite lively, with more choice available in neighbouring Canazei. Try the locally-made wines and the hearty Italian fare, as well as the traditional mountain cuisine, featuring regional produce such as mushrooms, truffles, and game, as well as local specialities such as ravioli with poppy seed filling.
