Bulgaria offers good value for money, European skiing and snowboarding, the ski areas may not be vast but the Bulgarian government are investing large amounts to encourage skiers from around Europe. The ski resorts in Bulgaria are modern and well equipped with good ski schools and facilities. Bulgaria is a perfect place to try out skiing and snowboarding, it is well set up for beginners and there are some cheap skiing holidays to be found.

Ski resorts of Bulgaria
The three main ski resorts in Bulgaria are Borovets, Pamporovo and Bansko. Borovets is the largest Bulgarian ski resort and the most developed, it stands at 1300m in the Rila mountains and is a perfect ski resort for beginners and mixed ability groups. Pamporovo is a sunny ski resort situated at 1600m at the foot of the Snezhanka Mountain; it has an excellent ski school and efficient lift system. Bansko is situated at 950m in the Pirin mountain region; it has been a popular ski resort with Bulgarian skiers for some time and is becoming more popular with British skiers.

Bulgaria is a perfect destination to try out skiing and snowboarding for the first time. It is cheap to get there, the ski packs and tuition is good value, the ski schools are generally very good with English speaking instructors and the lift systems and facilities are modern. The food in Bulgaria is basic and could not compare with France or Italy but it is inexpensive and plentiful. The après ski is fairly lively with bars and clubs in most resorts. It is advisable to take sterling to change up in the resort as the commission on debit/credit cards can be high.
