Briancon Snow Conditions - North-facing, high-altitude slopes of Serre Chevalier
The town has the southernmost ski slope in the Serre Chevalier region, with the slopes around Briancon seeing a great deal of sunshine, even during the winter. This sometimes means that the town sees a little less snow than other areas in the valley, with the higher villages of Chantemerle, Villenueve and Le Montier in general receiving more reliable snow cover than Briancon. However, good access by gondola to the higher terrain, with its north-facing slopes, makes ski holidays in Briancon an excellent base for Serre Chevalier. The terrain throughout Serre Chevalier in general is ideal for intermediates, and with the mountains heavily forested there are plenty of long tree-lined blues and reds to enjoy. The abundance of woods and forests also help to shelter skiers from wind and snow, and ensures that the resort stays open in the event of poor weather.
