Snow Conditions
Located on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountains, just 73km from Sofia, ski holidays in Borovets centre around the oldest and most traditional of all the Bulgarian ski centres, and is considered to be the best in the country. Sitting at an altitude of 1,350m, Borovets has a reliable snow record, and its slopes offer excellent conditions for first-timers and beginners. Set among scenic pine forests, the crisp mountain air around the resort of Borovets is considered particularly pure and healthy.

Borovets Snow Conditions - Resort sees some of the best snow in Eastern Europe
With skiing reaching a top elevation of 2,600m, the resort sees some of the best snow in Eastern Europe, and its mainly north-facing slopes help to preserve the snow base well. Despite this, however, conditions are still more varied and less reliable than other resorts in the west of Europe. Known as a great family and beginners' resort, the slopes are predominantly gentle, with 90% of them rated beginners or intermediates. Divided into 3 distinct skiing areas, Borovets, Yastrebets and Markujika, the latter has the highest slopes, and best skiing, located above the tree line in the Moussala basin.

The average snow base for the resort is 1.5m, and the area sees a long winter ski season running from December to April. January is the coldest month, seeing an average temperature of -4C, but in general the winters are mild, and snowy. The resort has invested in snowmaking facilities in recent years, with nine snow cannons now covering the slopes.
