Bohinj Snow Conditions
Bohinj Snow Conditions - Scenic skiing with reliable snowfall
Bohinj is a valley in the Julian Alps, located in the stunning Triglav National Park in north-west Slovenia. Skiing takes place over two mountains, which lie in a glacial basin, and offer 60km of marked piste for skiers and boarders. The two ski areas are situated at around 500m above sea level, with Vogel offering the higher terrain, reaching a top elevation of 1,800m to Koblas' 1,4580m.
Snow Conditions In Bohinj
A high-altitude resort, Bohinj sees a large amount of snowfall early on in the season, which generally lasts for the duration of the winter. The area is known for some of the most reliable snowfall in the country, with the position and altitude of the 1,800m Mount Vogel resulting in the large amount of precipitation the peak sees each season. The highest in the Alps, the mountain is ideally located as it is the first to receive the bulk of the snow when moisture from the Adriatic Sea travels inland. The terrain in Bohinj is mostly suited to skiing beginners and skiing intermediates, with some slopes on Vogel offering the most challenges for more advanced skiers. Kobla is home to more marked piste than Vogel, and the terrain is mainly wooded slopes.
Bohinj Snow Conditions - Long ski season, and snowmaking facilities
The ski season in Vogel runs from November to May, with the slopes of Kobla opening up in mid-December and staying open until the end of March. Extensive snowmaking facilities from 17 snow cannons over 70% of the slopes ensure that the snow conditions remain optimum until the end of the season.
