Ski Holidays In Bad Gastein
Bad Gastein is the largest ski area within the Gastein Valley, the area comprising Bad Hofgastein, Dorfgastein, Sportsgastein and Bad Gastein itself, collectively offering 250km of skiing at a great altitude. The resort is set in a spa town deep in a beautiful valley with stunning mountain views, a cascading waterfall running through its’ centre and streets filled with Belle Époque architecture. Bad Gastein is mainly suited to the intermediate skier, although this area of extensive skiing set in a tourists’ haven of such natural resource and beauty really does offer something for everyone.

Bad Gastein Ski Holidays – The Mountains
Bad Gastein, sitting at a height of 1000m, has a combination of 48 lifts – an array of gondolas, cable cars, a funicular and high speed chair lifts and is linked to its’ neighbour Bad Hofgastein. It’s possible to ski the Stubnerkogel, the mountain above Bad Gastein and then cross to the Shlossalm, the peak above Bad Hofgastein, then return to your base resort by train. These are the only two resorts that are lift linked – the others are all accessible by shuttle bus which travels up and down the valley. Beginners are best suited to the Angertal, between the 2 main resorts and the Schlossalm, with gentle forgiving runs, but the majority of the terrain in the valley is devoted to intermediates. With the Gastein Super Ski pass available, not to mention the multi-passes offered for the Amande ski area, there is an abundance of terrain to be explored – too much to complete during a  weeks’ skiing. There are some exhilarating steep verticals to be found throughout the valley, and along with some challenging black runs with steep narrow runs, some formidable off-piste powder for advanced skiers. Take the gondola to Sportsgastein, up to 2700m, for some unbeatable powder skiing. Bad Gastein enjoys a long season from December to May and a good snow record thanks to its’ high altitude.

Skiing In Bad Gastein – The Resort
Bad Gastein has an air of refined formality to it, typical of European spa towns, and this is true of the bars, restaurants and hotels that are found here. Stroll through the narrow streets and sample the international cuisine in the first class restaurants, before browsing through the designer stores and having a late-night drink in one of the cafes or bars. People come from all over the world to experience the healing and rejuvenating powers of the thermal baths and hot springs, so these are not to be missed – try the Thermal Galleries, situated in an old gold mine. Bad Gastein is quite a cultural centre with a theatre and concert halls to visit, and other activities to enjoy whilst holidaying here are the natural ice rinks, curling, paragliding, and traditional Alpine sleigh rides.
