Snow conditions in Axamer Lizum - High-altitude resort, reliable slopes
The ski resort of Axamer Lizum lies in the heart of the Tyrol region in Austria, above the village of Axams and just 25km from Innsbruck. Sitting at an altitude of 1,600m, the resort offers plenty of skiing over 2,000m, and reliable snow all winter. Axamer Lizum enjoys a long ski season running from the middle of November to early April, and an average snowfall of 170cm each year.
Axamer Lizum snow conditions - Ideal intermediate terrain, with fast Olympic runs
The resort has 33km of local slopes, which offer plenty of skiing for all abilities, with the terrain best suited to intermediates. Over half of all the runs here are rated as intermediate, and there's a wealth of choice for this group, from long cruising trails to wide open slopes above the tree-line. Beginners can start off at the base area, filled with wide sunny plateaus and the home of the ski school, before exploring the mountain and its 25% of easier runs. More advanced skiers can try their hand at some of the championship runs, including the long Womens' downhill and a famously steep slalom, as well as the extensive off-piste found here.

A snow-sure high-altitude resort, Axamer Lizum offers reliable conditions throughout its long season, and with the slopes here facing in both a northern and easterly direction, the packed snow base is well maintained. Upper slope averages for 2007-8 reached 140cm, with the lower slopes seeing over 100cm too, and the resort receiving the most snowfall during February and March. In addition to the great natural conditions, Axamer Lizum has an extensive snowmaking system, with 20 snow cannons covering about three-quarters of the slopes.
