Skiing in Axamer Lizum
Axamer Lizum, just 6 miles from Innsbruck in the Tyrol region of Austria, was built specifically to host the downhill skiing in the 1964 Olympics and then again in 1976, and today is an extensive, relatively challenging ski area serving the villages of Axame, Gotzens and Birgitz, ideally suited to intermediate skiers. Axamer Lizum, although being home to a few restaurants and bars, is not an actual resort, with most visitors choosing to stay in the neighbouring villages or the city of Innsbruck itself.  Innsbrucks’ close proximity means that whilst skiing in Axamer Lizum, it’s possible to savour the cultural sites of Innsbruck, with its beautiful architecture, historic churches and bustling city life.
