Snow conditions in Avoriaz – Excellent snow record
Skiers in Avoriaz can rest assured that they will find plenty of snow coverage at the resort – at 1800 metres and with north-facing slopes, skiing here is the highest and most snow-sure in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. The resort has seen an average snow coverage of 8.29 metres each winter for the last 10 years, and for extra peace of mind, an arsenal of 68 snow cannons is at hand to ensure snow conditions in Avoriaz are excellent throughout the season. Avoriaz is the largest resort in Portes du Soleil, with 150km of pistes, but the resort’s good snow record means pistes can get a little crowded here at times of poor snow for neighbouring resorts. However, a good lift system and fast uplift keeps bottle-necking to a minimum. The season here runs from early December to late-April.

Avoriaz snow conditions – Fantastic terrain for intermediates
Advanced intermediates on a skiing holiday in Avoriaz will appreciate the sheer number of red and blue runs in the resort. Skiing is almost entirely above the tree line, with the exception of the lower altitude runs down to Les Prodains. The more advanced skier will find some steep, fast black runs and long mogul runs in and around the resort, with off-piste skiing offering some real challenges. Beginners will find gentle nursery slopes close to the resort centre, and almost all accomodation in the area offers ski-in, ski-out convenience.

Snow conditions in Avoriaz – Easy access to fantastic off-piste terrain
Skiers in Avoriaz can take advantage of the fact that the resort offers easy access to the Secteur Chavanette - a huge ski area sitting above the tree line with multiple blue and red runs. The wide bowl shape of the area creates patrolled but un-piste skier cross areas featuring vast natural terrain of varying degrees of difficulty. Abundant rock drop-offs, and natural half pipes provide ample opportunity to practice your slope style. The area is served by two express lifts, meaning that skiers in Avoriaz will not be kept waiting for long. Skiers in Avoriaz can also take an express lift to TS Sreaussaix, an excellent blue run. Excellent for beginners, the run is wide, gentle and not too steep. Advanced skiers looking for a challenge will find an excellent mogul run at Stade du Slalom.

Snow conditions in Avoriaz – Great for boarders
Avoriaz is an enduringly popular destination for boarders – it was one of the first resorts in the Alps to build a terrain park, and continues to attract thousands of repeat visitors each year. With a dedicated snowboarding park, slalom course, extensive off-piste and a half pipe, boarders in Avoriaz will be truly in their element.
