Skiing in Avoriaz
Avoriaz is situated at 1800m in the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, it is a modern purpose built ski resort, the architecture is unique and the village has the luxury of doorstep skiing. The ski resort of Avoriaz is traffic free, so very safe for families and skiers can either walk or take horse drawn sleighs around the village. The Portes du Soleil is an amazing ski area covering 650kms, two countries – France and Switzerland and a dozen ski villages; Avoriaz is one of the most popular ski resorts of this area. With north facing slopes and a high altitude Avoriaz is known for its’ great snow conditions, some really challenging skiing and good children’s facilities and all this within 2 hours of Geneva.
Skiing holidays in Avoriaz
Avoriaz has great nursery slopes at the top of the village and the ski school has a good reputation. Intermediate skiers will relish the huge area to explore (650kms in the Potres du Soleil) and the opportunity to ski over into Switzerland for lunch. For expert skiers one of the most challenging black runs in Europe is in Avoriaz – The Wall, a 300m drop of huge moguls. There is also the World Cup downhill run at Les Hauts Forts and vast opportunities for off piste skiing. Cross country skiers will find 48kms of trails locally to Avoriaz and approx 95kms of cross country skiing in the Portes du Soleil.
Snowboarding in Avoriaz
Avoriaz has welcomed snowboarders since the sport first appeared and was the first French resort to build a terrain park and half pipe in the 1990’s. There are now three snowboard parks in Avoriaz including one for beginners; this is definitely one of the best resorts in Europe for snowboarders.
Apres ski in Avoriaz
There are over 30 restaurants in Avoriaz, a mix of cuisine and prices, there are several bars and a couple of nightclubs, the apres ski is fairly lively.
Winter activities in Avoriaz
There are plenty of winter activities to enjoy in Avoriaz including ice skating, skidoos, bowling and snowshoeing. There is also a gym, sauna, hot tub, some beautiful walking trails and a cinema.
