Snow Conditions in Aspen
With an annual snowfall of 7.5m and predominantly north-facing slopes, the Aspen/Snowmass region offers reliable conditions and guaranteed snow. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Aspen is surrounded by wilderness and mountains, and enjoys moderate winters with low humidity, and an abundance of brilliant blue skies and high-altitude sunshine, as much as 300 days per year.
Aspen Snow Conditions - High-altitude slopes, 300 days of sunshine
Sitting at a height of 2,385m, Aspen offers skiing up to almost 3,500m, resulting in snow sure high-altitude slopes. The resort is known for its 'champagne powder', so characteristic of the Rocky Mountain resorts, making for ideal conditions. With skiing spread over four mountains, Aspen boasts terrain for all standards of skier, with Aspen Mountain and Highlands best known for their challenging slopes, full of steeps and moguls, and Snowmass boasting the longest vertical in the US, at 1,432m. Buttermilk is full of wide easy and intermediate trails and the best for beginners.
Snow Conditions in Aspen - Long winter ski season, average annual snowfall of 7.5m
The resort enjoys a long ski season, beginning in November and remaining open until April. March is the best month for snow in Aspen, seeing a consistent upper slope average of around 160cm - 180cm over the last few years, and reaching 209cm in 2006. Generally winters are moderate with plenty of blue skies and intense sunshine, with January being the coldest month in Aspen, seeing a maximum temperature of 0C, and occasionally dropping down to extreme lows of -14C. The resort also has a combined snowmaking capacity covering 600 acres over all four mountains.
