Ideally located just 9km from the major tourist resort of Chamonix, the town of Argentiere offers a quieter and higher base for serious skiers. A convenient shuttle bus makes the journey into Chamonix every 15 minutes, for those looking to make the most of the larger resorts' facilities.

Recreation
Argentiere is smaller, more laid-back and quieter than Chamonix, with an authentic Alpine character. The old town has a rustic atmosphere, with most of the shops, bars and restaurants located in the modern section. Various chalets and hotels offer facilities for spas, massages and beauty treatments. For alternative entertainment, there is a multi-screen cinema, a Museum and a casino in Chamonix. 

Dining
Restaurants range from cosy and traditional to casual and informal, with prices tending to be lower than those in Chamonix. Choose from a good selection of Savoyard specialities, such as fondue and raclette, and dishes with plenty of sausage, meats and cheeses, of course accompanied by regional wines or a warming gluvine.

Après-ski
Again, far more relaxed than its lively neighbour, Argentiere's après-ski focuses on some cosy bars, pubs and one disco. Chamonix is highly accessible for a night out and boasts a more varied scene, with many more drinking holes and a choice of clubs.

Day trips from Argentiere include exploring the whole of the Chamonix Valley, and excursions into Switzerland and Italy.
