The resort centres on the main railway station square, and combines both traditional and modern architecture, with the attractive village offering quaint shops to browse round. Set in a beautiful location, Are stretches for 10km along a frozen lake, and this unspoilt scenic region can be explored on winter walks, or while taking pony trekking, snowmobile or dog sledding trips. For something new, visit a frozen waterfall or ice cave. Popular excursions include an overnight train trip to Stockholm to experience its vibrant city scene, or a visit to the oldest ski region in Sweden, Ostersund.
Après Ski And Dining
Known as the 'after ski', the nightlife is unpretentious and laid-back, with a good choice of end-of-the-day entertainment in the local bars and pubs. Many venues feature live music, bands, DJ's and dancing, with weekends tending to get quite lively, attracting visitors from Stockholm and Norway. Local specialities include the traditional Scandinavian smorgasbord, smoked fish, Swedish meatballs, moose and reindeer. Food and drink prices are generally in line with the Alps.
