Skiing in Arc 1600
Arc 1600, the birthplace of Les Arcs, the modern purpose-built resort with fantastic skiing for all levels, is a family-friendly village situated above the town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the Tarentaise Valley. Originally built in 1968, and now known as Arc Pierre Blanche, after the resorts’ designer, Arc 1600 offers convenient accommodation and facilities in a quiet peaceful village, against a backdrop of spectacular scenery.

Skiing in Arc 1600 – The Mountains
The giant ski area of Les Arcs offers 200km of pistes, with 118 snow-sure slopes, and a network of 58 lifts carrying skiers around the mountains and up to the peak elevation of 3,226m. Les Arcs offers a wide range of terrain, from runs through thick forests, to wide open bowls and glacial skiing. The skiing in Arc 1600 is generally through scenic wooded terrain, and from the heart of the village, 3 lifts ferry passengers quickly and efficiently to the other areas of the resort. Arc 1800 is known for the best nursery slopes and here beginners can learn the basics of the “ski evolutif” method, with the length of skis increasing as the skier progresses, a technique developed in Les Arcs. The upper slopes of Les Arcs, found around the higher villages of Arc 1950 and Arc 2000, are highly accessible from Arc 1600 and offer excellent conditions for the more advanced skier.  From the highest peak, at 3,226m, experts can test their skills on the glacial slopes, and experience the thrill of one of the longest black run in the world, leading from the top of Aiguille Rouge all the way down to the village of Villaroger. The off-piste skiing in Les Arcs is some of the best in the Alps and guides are available to show skiers how to make the most of the mountain. Down in the village of Peisey, the high-speed gondola, the Vanoise Express, makes the journey from Les Arcs to La Plagne and the vast Paradiski area. The trip takes just 4 minutes, and from here skiers can enjoy one of the biggest ski areas in the world, with a combined area of 425km, 232 pistes and 175 lifts. Les Arcs is known as an extremely snowboard-friendly resort, and offers 4 snowparks, 2 boardercross courses and 2 half-pipes in the entire Paradiski region.

Skiing in Arc 1600 – The Village
The oldest village in Les Arcs, Arc 1600 is a firm favourite with locals and families alike. It is the quietest of the purpose-built villages, and offers a relaxed atmosphere for visitors. Arc 1600 is known as the best village for families, with the pedestrian centre being compact and constructed on one level, a childrens’ ski area and a kindergarten taking infants from as young as 4 months. A shuttlebus makes the short trip to the other villages of Les Arcs, Arc 1800, the main centre where most of the après-ski entertainment is, and up to the higher areas of 1950 and 2000. Arc 1600 is connected to the charming town of Bourg Saint Maurice, at 800m, and visitors to the resort can make the quick trip by funicular to the authentic Savoyard town with its’ traditional shops, restaurants and weekly market. Other activities to enjoy whilst skiing in Arc 1600 include snow-shoeing, snow-mobiling, ice-skating, bowling and swimming. The more adventurous can try out the Olympic tracks in the area, the speed skating rink in Les Arcs and the bob-sleigh track in La Plagne.
