Alpe d'Huez Snow Conditions

Alpe d'Huez Snow Conditions - High-altitude sunny French resort
One of the most southerly major resorts in the French Alps, Alpe d'Huez is both reliably snow-sure and pleasantly sunny. Located at 1,860m, above the Oisans Valley, the resort is one of the highest in Europe and is dominated by Le Pic Blanc, which stands at 3,330m, the highest peak in the Grandes Rousses Massif. The resorts' high-altitude helps to retain its excellent snow record, whilst the mainly south-facing slopes receive plenty of sunshine, as much as 300 days per year.

Snow Conditions In Alpe d'Huez - Extensive terrain for all levels of skier
With its huge ski area, the terrain at Alpe d'Huez offers a range of choice for all levels of skier. Home to a massive 2,230m vertical drop from Le Pic Blanc, the resort boasts some exceptional runs, including the longest in Europe - La Sarenne, a staggering 16km black run which famously leads back down to the village. The extensive powder is best explored with a knowledgeable guide, but offers a wealth of challenges for advanced skiers. Whilst the summit of the mountain offers a host of exhilarating off-piste descents, and beginners will enjoy the gentle wide slopes at the base of the resort, the majority of the terrain will suit intermediate skiers. With one of the best lift systems in the Alps, getting around the large and diverse ski area is no problem, with a series of 84 modern lifts to transport skiers around.
Alpe d'Huez Snow Conditions - Great snowfall and plenty of snowmaking
The resort generally sees excellent coverage on its slopes, with an annual snowfall of 548cm each year, and upper slope averages ranging from 150cm to 365cm in recent years. The ski season runs from December to April, with February and March seeing the most snow each winter. To counteract the mainly south-facing slopes, snowmaking is extensive in Alpe d'Huez, with 800 snow cannons covering the resort. Once a haven for summer skiing, Alpe d'Huez is currently not offering skiing on the nearby Sarenne Glacier, not due to lack of snow, but because of recent melting on the glacial slopes.
