Skiing in Alpbach Skiing in Alpbach,a picture-postcard Tyrolean village, offers fantastic skiing for beginners, intermediates, and families alike, in a traditional Alpine setting. British visitors find themselves returning year after year, as Alpbach offers great value for money with an unspoilt mountain atmosphere. The village itself has retained its’ charm and beauty thanks to strict building regulations – which stipulate that any modern construction must be built in typical Tyrolean style and Alpbach has had the honour of winning such recent awards as “Austrias’ Prettiest Village” and “Europes’ Loveliest Floral Village”. Local farming is still very much in existence in and around the area, adding to the rural charm and the 15th century church is at the centre of village life. Against this backdrop, you’ll find a ski resort with 45 km of expertly groomed pistes served by 22 lifts, and 12 mainly NW facing runs, many above tree line.
Skiing in Alpbach – The Slopes In Alpbach, beginners have a choice of 3 nursery slopes right in the centre of the village and one more, the Horn Boden, situated at the top of the mountain. The gondola is only a few minutes away from the village, by bus, and this will take you to the peak of the Wiedersberger Horn Mountain, where the majority of skiing can be found. This is perfect intermediate terrain, with numerous tree-lined reds to choose from. There are a couple of black runs to challenge the more advanced skiers and plenty of off-piste opportunities. For more varied skiing, invest in the Kitzbuheler Alpen Ski Pass which provides access to 700km of pistes and 260 lifts within 30 different resorts, including Kitzbuhel, St Johann and Ellmau. Alpach also offers good boarding, with 2 terrain parks and 2 half-pipes.
Skiing in Alpbach – The Village Alpbach, with its’ population of 2,500, has everything you’d expect from a working mountain village. Historic inns and friendly local shops line the quiet streets, and once the lifts close, there are many places to have that apres-ski drink – a local beer or a schnapps, two favourites being the Boglerhof and the Jakober. Try the local specialties at any of the restaurants either in the village or on the mountain. The accommodation in Alpbach varies from traditional family run inns, lodges and farmhouses to 4 star hotels, some slopeside offering first-class amenities. Apart from the excellent skiing, Alpbach offers a wide range of other activities, ranging from the traditional – ice skating, tobogganing, curling, swimming ( try the indoor pool with its’ water slide) and winter hiking to the more unusual – horse drawn sleigh rides and weekly yodelling lessons.
